Care in your property
Health and safety
Careful planning, suitable tools and clear communication help us protect you, your property and the people doing the work.
Version 1.0 · 31 October 2026
Before work begins
We discuss the job, access and any known hazards before starting. We assess the task and conditions, agree the work area and plan suitable precautions. Please tell us about relevant restrictions, known asbestos or other hazardous materials, hidden services and anyone who may need extra consideration.
Where a job needs specialist skills, equipment or permissions, we will discuss suitable arrangements. We will not take on work outside our competence or the agreed scope.
Looking after people and your home
- We agree access and practical protection arrangements, keep escape routes clear and manage the work area to help protect occupants, visitors, children and pets.
- We assess dust, noise and substances used in the work and select appropriate controls. This may include extraction, ventilation and suitable protective equipment.
- We explain any necessary interruption to water, power or access, and any restrictions that remain at the end of a visit.
- We use suitable access equipment for the job and stop if the conditions cannot be controlled safely.
Suitable equipment and competent work
Tools and access equipment must be suitable, checked and maintained for the work. The same safety expectations apply to business-owned, personally owned and hired equipment used for VCG jobs.
Electrical inspection, testing and calibration requirements depend on the equipment and how it is used. A label or test date alone does not establish that a tool is safe, and not every item needs the same checks.
We check the competence needed for each task. Work requiring a specialist or registration must be carried out by an appropriately competent provider with the required authorisation.
If we find an unexpected hazard
We may pause affected work if we discover unsafe conditions, suspect asbestos, hidden damage or a task that needs a different method. We will explain the issue, take reasonable steps to leave the area safe and discuss the next steps before proceeding.
We do not disturb suspect asbestos as part of ordinary maintenance. It needs appropriate assessment and, where necessary, specialist arrangements.
